NextHome Golden State presents TILLYfest 2023

About TILLYfest – Grassfed Americana

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2023

TILLYfest celebrates the life and times of Yolo County’s Holstein Queen and internationally renowned milk production champion Tilly Alcartra (1908-1924). In her day, her reputation was unsurpassed and she set world records from 1914-1920.
The FREE festival will feature live Bluegrass at Blue Note Brewing and at Heritage Plaza, live Country Western at The Burger Saloon.
There will be historical exhibits, food, beverages, vendors, farmers market, games and other activities for the whole family presented by county 4-H Clubs.
The fundraiser will help establish a local history museum in the historic downtown Woodland! The venue will be “A toast to Yolo’s pride” and will showcase the amazing heritage of our great county! The future “must see” destination landmark will be sustained by the women and men of Woodland Parlor 30, Native Sons of the Golden West, (the only NSGW chapter in Yolo County). Please help us achieve our goal!
NextHome Golden State is, once again, Grand Champion Patron of this event. Broker/owner Vicki Rae Bourn is a native of Woodland. Her family first settled in the Woodland area back in the 1870’s.

Our projects… Parlor 30 has four major projects that are ongoing:

Our goals for 2023-24… We’re presenting TILLYfest for the second year to raise funds for a unique museum that will be Woodland’s next must-see venue. The recruitment of members and working with other historical groups are keys to this goal. The group also selects historic sites to create markers that will enhance the experience of all visitors to downtown… and… we offer historical tours, including Dead Cat Alley presentations during our Woodland History Tours events. We will continue to participate in First Friday Art & History Walks and the annual Stroll Through History.

About TILLY ALCARTRA

BETWEEN 1914 AND 1920 Asa W. Morris’ champion Holstein cow, Tilly Alcartra, held the world’s record for milk production – in an era when fine animals were of greater interest than automobiles. Tilly was a bovine celebrity who traveled in First Class train parlor cars and was a lunch guest at the lavish Palace Hotel in downtown San Francisco.
For the full American story read “Asa and the Holstein Queen” by Lynne Gough. The book is based on the real-life adventures of four generations of the author’s American ancestors, culminating in the remarkable life of her great-grandfather, Asa W. Morris, who rose to prominence in the early California dairy industry.
